EMDR & KAP INTENSIVES

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. It works by helping the brain reprocess traumatic memories, reducing their emotional charge and transforming negative beliefs associated with these memories. EMDR is a holistic approach to healing that incorporates elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and body-centered therapies, making it a comprehensive treatment that addresses the mind, body, and emotions. While it’s renowned for its effectiveness in alleviating the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), it can be adapted to treat a wide range of issues beyond trauma, including phobias(anxiety), panic disorders, grief, and chronic pain.

KAP

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is an emergent modality that uses an altered state induced by ketamine to help patients deepen their work in psychotherapy. Combined with psychotherapy, KAP has shown positive, clinically significant results in private practice settings thanks to the therapeutic alliance and enhanced neuroplasticity; significantly diminishing depression, anxiety, and PTSD, and increasing well-being. KAP has also been found useful in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), Substance Use Disorders (SUD), and Eating Disorders (ED).

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) 101

I offer a therapeutic modality called Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) in partnership with an organization called Journey Clinical.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic modality in which ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy to help eligible patients experience more frequent breakthroughs and sustained improvement in symptoms.

I take on the psychotherapy portion of the experience, while Journey Clinical’s medical team supports you on all medical aspects.

This includes determining eligibility, developing a custom treatment plan, prescribing the medicine and monitoring outcomes. Below is more information about KAP to help you navigate if it may be a good fit for you.

Answer: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. It involves recalling distressing experiences while performing guided eye movements, which can help reprocess and integrate these memories into a more adaptive state. EMDR can be particularly effective for individuals dealing with PTSD, anxiety, and other trauma-related conditions.

Answer: Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) combines the therapeutic benefits of ketamine, a dissociative anesthetic, with psychotherapy sessions. Ketamine can help facilitate a state of relaxation and introspection, making it easier to explore and process deep-seated emotional issues. KAP is often used for individuals who have not responded to traditional treatments for depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other mental health conditions.

Answer: Signs that you might benefit from therapy for past trauma include experiencing flashbacks or intrusive memories, feeling constantly on edge, having difficulty forming close relationships, and suffering from anxiety or depression. If past events are affecting your daily life and emotional well-being, seeking professional help can provide relief and support.

Answer: During your first therapy session, we will discuss your background, current concerns, and goals for therapy. It’s a time for us to get to know each other and for you to ask any questions about the therapy process. We will also explore your history and any past traumas that may be relevant to your treatment. The initial session sets the foundation for a collaborative and supportive therapeutic relationship.

Answer: The duration of therapy varies depending on the individual's needs and goals. Some people may find significant relief in a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy. EMDR and KAP sessions are typically more structured and may be shorter in duration compared to traditional talk therapy. During our initial sessions, we can discuss a treatment plan that best suits your needs and timeline.

Additional Information

Unfortunately Therapy Intensives are not completely covered by insurance companies. I am in network with several insurance companies and you may be able to utilize insurance to cover some of the session. Payment Plan options are available.

How do I schedule an Intensive?

Schedule a Free 20 minute virtual consultation down below. This is NOT a therapy session, but a chance to determine which service might be right for you. From there we will identify a date and time that works for both of us.

What if I need to reschedule my appointment?

If you are unable to keep your appointment, please reach out in advance to discuss rescheduling. You may reschedule your appointment up to two weeks prior to your scheduled appointment. Cancellations will result in your deposit being refunded minus $300 administrative fee.

Do you offer Emergency Support?

This office does not provide emergency or 24-hour support, meaning this may not be the right service if you are actively in crisis. If we determined during your consultation that this may not be the best fit I will provide you with referrals who may better support you.

How are Preparation/Integrations Sessions billed?

Preparation & Integration Sessions are typically billed like a typical

psychotherapy session. Whether you accept insurance or private pay,

many of our members do not change their rate from a ‘regular’ therapy

session for the preparation and integration sessions within a patient’s KAP

treatment plan.

How is a Dosing Session Billed?

For patients who use insurance, our members will bill the insurance for the

one hour of the dosing session (the psychotherapy portion), as they would

The patient is then responsible for the cost of the

remaining ~2-3 hours.
